Susan G. Komen Event

Recently I performed at a very special event at the Parthenon in Nashville - the Susan G. Komen Candlelight Vigil Memorial Service.  I sang my song "That's What Mamas Do," which was particularly appropriate that night.  If you aren't familiar with Susan G. Komen For the Cure, please visit www.komen-nashville.org to find out more about what you can do to help in the fight against breast cancer.

Jason Matthews Helps Kick Off 'In the Round, On the Row' Songwriter Series

Hit songwriter and Valhalla recording artist Jason Matthews helped to launch the opening installment of the 'In the Round, On the Row' songwriter series at Edgehill Café in Nashville.
Matthews treated the crowd to some of his biggest hit songs, including "That's Just Jessie," "Break Down Here," "Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right" and his latest success, Luke Bryan's "Country Man."  Matthews also performed songs from his own debut release, Hicotine, including the emotional ballad "That's What Mamas Do."

"Anytime I get the opportunity to trade songs and stories with other great songwriters I'm all for it," said Matthews.  "I think Nashville forgets how lucky we are sometimes with all the talent around here and tonight was a great example of some of that talent. I'm thrilled to be part of this first episode knowing it's going out across the world on the Internet."

The evening also featured performances from songwriters Jason White and Michael Peterson.

The 'In the Round, On the Row' show will be taped on a regular basis and made available online at www.DigitalRodeo.com as an original series beginning in mid-October.  Viewers will be able to watch the series in weekly webisode installments.

Jason Matthews Burns Up Road, Airwaves This Summer

Award-winning singer-songwriter Jason Matthews continues his hectic schedule across the country, visiting radio stations, playing shows, writing more hit songs and generally entertaining anyone within earshot of his new record, Hicotine.

One of Matthews' more memorable stops on his recent radio tour was WDAF's Denim and Diamonds show with Chuck Wicks and Bucky Covington.  Matthews' single, "That's What Mamas Do," became one of the summer's most requested songs on country radio in Kansas City.

"Radio tours can really test a man's patience," says Matthews, "but everyone has been great out here on the road, and the response so far makes it all worth it, really.  Now if we could just do something about these gas prices!"

Matthews is also watching another one of his songs shoot up the country charts.  This time it's Luke Bryan's "Country Man," which Matthews co-wrote.

"One of my best friends and favorite people in the world is Luke Bryan.  I'm so proud to have co-written this new single with him," Matthews says.

"Country Man" is the latest hit song in a long list of singles for Matthews.  He wrote Billy Currington's "Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right," Julie Roberts' "Break Down Here" and Kevin Denney's "That's Just Jessie," among others.

Matthews' nonstop travels found him performing at this year's CMA Music Festival, hanging with Lady Antebellum at the ACM Awards in Las Vegas and helping raise money for the American Cancer Society at the Relay For Life benefit concert in Tupelo, MS.

He also got to fulfill one of his childhood dreams when he was asked to perform "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch at a Kansas City Royals baseball game.

Hit Songwriter Jason Matthews Releases Unfiltered, Full-Flavored Debut, 'Hicotine'

Jason Matthews, the hit songwriter that co-wrote Billy Currington's Number One smash, "Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right," has released his debut album, Hicotine.  Matthews wrote or co-wrote all thirteen songs on the album.

The first single, "That's What Mamas Do," is a powerful tribute to mothers everywhere and is currently shooting up the Music Row CountryBreakout chart. Matthews won Music Row's Breakthrough Writer of the Year in 2006.

Hicotine proves Matthews to be more than just another Nashville songwriter, as his soulful delivery maneuvers easily between country-rocker anthems like the title track "Hicotine" to the thoughtful ballad "That's What Mamas Do."

"If Faulkner needed a soundtrack, he'd ask Jason Matthews to write it," says Max Hutchinson of Valhalla Music Group.

Matthews has a history of writing hit singles for other artists.  In addition to co-writing "Must Be Doin' Something Right," Matthews has seen several of his songs turn into hits, including Julie Roberts' "Break Down Here," Kevin Denney's "That's Just Jesse," Tammy Cochran's "Life Happened," Dusty Drake's "One Last Time" and James Otto's "The Ball."

"It's like that great big radio channel in the sky that you keep trying to tune into and every once in awhile you catch a little bit, and then it's back to static," Matthews says of the inspiration behind his songwriting technique.  "You take what you heard and you write it, you try to put all the other stuff around the inspiration."

Born in Harrells Store, North Carolina, Patrick Jason Matthews got hooked on the craft of songwriting at the age of fifteen.  After earning a degree in English from East Carolina University, Matthews continued writing, eventually hitting the road with musical comedy team Pinkard and Bowden as a roadie and songwriter.  A year later, Matthews relocated to Nashville, where he is currently signed to Universal Music Publishing Group.

Hicotine was produced by Jason Matthews and Bart Busch and released nationally on May 6.
